Starting your career with less than two years experience, you can expect an average yearly wage of around $35,000 per year. With a bachelors degree and continued education and experience the average annual income is around $63,000 per year.

Job Description

You will use radiation to explore the internal organs and bones of the human body structure. This use of radiation produces x-rays which are then used to detect and diagnose internal problems of the body such as bone fractures, foreign objects, and any soft tissue problems. In general, radiology technicians spend the majority of their work career in hospitals, imaging centers and physician offices. People skills are required, due to the fact that you will be dealing with patients on a daily basis. You will use or operate machinery required to take x-rays, you will then be required to submit findings to a doctor or physician..


There are several different routes you can take while pursuing a career. The route you choose however, will play a large role in what you can expect to see in your income. You have the opportunity to choose to attend a program offered at a technical school, a class offered a hospital or choose to attend a traditional college or university.

Depending on where you choose to get your education, you can look at spending anywhere from one to four years in school. Depending on the course to follow, you can expect to receive a certificate, an Associates degree or a bachelors degree. The degree or certificate that you hold in your hand after you graduate, will determine your starting pay.
