Typically, the highest 10 percent of those who are employed in this state make $66,060 while the lowest 10 percent receive an average annual wage of $36,320. The salary also varies from city to city. That means that the geographical location is a determinant in the average annual wage of an x-ray tech. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Cincinnati and Middletown, are the cities that have the most number of employed radiology technicians. The average annual wage in these cities is around $50,420. Indianapolis and Carmel have around 1,340 individuals hired on for this profession and these cities are paying them around $53,260 in each year. Louisville and Jefferson County as well as Kentucky and Indiana have a yearly rate of $46,750. Their headcount for this profession is at 1,350. For example, Northeast Indiana pays their x-ray techs a rate of $50,790 while the Northwest part is at a rate of $50,270. Those who are employed in the Southwest and Southeast regions are paid similar rates of $46,400. If one would make a national comparison, then one should take note that the rate in the state of Illinois is slightly lower than that of the national average annual wage. The middle 50 percent of this earns around $43,510 to $64,070.  The educational attainment of a certain applicant can also affect the rate of his or her pay. Anyone who wants to become a radiology technician can complete a formal training through certificate programs or associate degree programs. Some also opt to finish the four year bachelor course in radiology. This, of course, will boost up their application forms. The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology has certify about 213 certificate programs, 397 associate degree programs and 35 bachelor degree programs as of the year 2009. It would also help if a radiology technician would get a specialization in the sub-fields of radiology such as MRI or CT. And aside from the basic salary that they are receiving, some radiology technicians are also entitled to other benefits like life and dental insurance.
